"His work delves into nature, human emotion, and surrealism, creating images that are both unique and deeply personal"
One of his most notable works is the series “The Field,” which he began while living in Topanga, a mountain town just above Los Angeles. Topanga, known for its rustic cottages and artistic refuge, served as a backdrop for Hollingsworth’s exploration of nature and human change. “The Field is an ongoing body of work that I have been exploring for the last few years. At its inception, I was living in Topanga, a mountain town just above the sprawl of Los Angeles,” Hollingsworth explains. “When photographing friends in the field near my home, I was inspired by the changes I observed in them. It is a simple field of tall grasses and yellow mustard flowers, a large tree at the top surrounded by a maze of interlocking greens” (Fisheye Magazine).
In another series titled “Flower Beds,” Hollingsworth examines the emotional and communicative capacities of flowers. He emphasizes how different viewers might experience the same image in profoundly different ways based on their personal contexts. This series underscores his belief that photography can reset viewers’ mental frameworks and deepen their connections to visual objects. “It has been proven that plants have the ability to communicate, not only with each other but also with the human body and nervous system. Each flower holds the capacity to move, and what they move would depend on the viewer” (Collateral).
Hollingsworth’s approach to photography is profoundly influenced by his experiences and surroundings, often finding beauty in everyday moments and landscapes. His fondest memories include summers in Greece, where the natural beauty of olive trees, rocky cliffs, and the Mediterranean Sea provided endless inspiration. “Summers in Greece are still my fondest memories shooting. There is something to be said about olive trees, wine, and rocky Mediterranean cliffs over sweet blue sea” (Populist Magazine).
Through his art, Hollingsworth seeks to capture not just images but the essence of moments, aiming to evoke a deep emotional response from his audience. His photographs are full of layered textures, altered colors, and patterns that simulate movement, making his still images appear to travel through space. “My main goal as an artist is to create something that could potentially reset the mental framework of the viewer’s connection to a visual object” (Collateral).
